Going Creative…Live! | Seattle Pet Photography

Fabulous opportunities come around every once in a while, and you just have to snatch them up. Many photographers and creatives of all sorts out there know about the amazing creativeLIVE, who put on all kinds of amazing live internet workshops. With workshops most often spanning about 3 full days, you can tune in online to watch and learn from the best of the best on everything from photography, photo-editing, business, music/audio, art and design, video production…and this week, Animal Photography. I just had to try and be there for this one…

After sending in a one-minute video blurb and application explaining why I want to be at the live workshop, I’ve been invited to be in the studio learning from the one and only celebrated Rachael Hale McKenna, an amazing animal and child photographer originally from New Zealand. I’m also super lucky that the CL studios are right here in Seattle. I get to bring all my own questions for Rachael to add to the ones that the web audience send in, and along with the other pet photogs in the studio, learn from Rachael’s insights and wealth of knowledge. Rachael’s work is world-renowned, published in books and magazines, and I can’t wait to hear what she has to share (*oh, and you can see what I’m talking about on her website at the link via her name above). I also just found out that 2 other HeARTs Speak members that I’ve not yet met will be there; it will be great to hear about their rescue pet photo work too. I’m stoked!

One big thing I hope to bring back from it all, is a whole host of new ways to implement all the plans and ideas I have swirling around in my head, and finally put them into action. With all the intense focus and time I have spent on my Animal Talk rescue work in recent months – so many foster home visits! – I’ve not been able to develop much for my business or personal work. Must get creative juices going again to add all these services and ideas to my pet photography roster. Exciting!

Well, thank you to those at creativeLIVE for inviting me along for the ride this week, and if you’re reading this because you found me through recent social media links thanks to the workshop, HI!!

Be sure to leave me a message and let me know what you think of my work; and please do pop over to my Facebook page too. I love hearing from people!

Happy (Cat) Tails | Seattle Cat Photography

Although not all my work is rescue cat photography, it does means a LOT to me, and whenever cats that I have photographed and got to know get adopted, I am always thrilled. It’s not lost on me that it takes a great many people to get adoptions happening, and in the end, there’s not just a happy cat (and happy rescue peeps!), there’s also a happy family and home that have a magical and unique being in their lives. These are just some of the lucky cats from Animal Talk that have been adopted in recent weeks, and all of them, as you can see, are full-grown cats, some with issues such as FIV, and many deemed ‘less-adoptable’. They are all safe today and that makes my heart sing!! Psssht, I say, to them being less-adoptable…they’re all gorgeous!

Thank you adopters everywhere!

Be an earth angel. Adopt a not-quite-perfect dog or cat that needs you, and help it heal. Such a companion will teach you much about selfless love, generosity, and tolerance—becoming an earth angel for you.” ~ http://www.sunbearsquad.org

The One and Only Rollo! Today’s Facebook Photo Post

The One and Only Rollo!

*The cloudiness you can see on his left eye is from an injury and is healing. Hopefully it will clear more but the eye shows some scarring. You’re still lovely, Rollo! Four years at the rescue and we will NEVER EVER give up on finding you a permanent home. This guy has come a long way. I’ll be deliriously happy when he finds his perfect human pal who understands his quirkiness and feels his sweet character shine through.

Rollo is at Animal Talk Rescue of Seattle.

Rainy Day Pop | Seattle Live Music Photogaphy

We’ve been fortunate to have had some great (even if cold) sunny weather here in Seattle for days now, but finally today the rain suddenly started to pour down. It’s one of those days where I don’t feel so bad about being camped out on the couch (with a half-sick child) doing some digital homework. And now that I’m armed with a faster laptop and hard drive, as well as a little wheeled desk to use my computer on, my photo-processing workflow has become fun again. None of that mind-numbingly slow exporting, saving and uploading that was going on!

Along with creating a band poster, today I’ve caught up with kindergarten photos in addition to gig photos, and I’m about to move onto (and back to!) photos from last spring taken in England. It’s about bloody time, I think!

Here are some gig photos of The Pop Cycle, that I took at the end of January, at back-to-back gigs at the Highline and at Tim’s Tavern here in Seattle. Some hot red guitars to brighten up this dreary day…

Stay warm and dry!! xo ~ K

Photographing the Golden Years | Seattle Pet Photography

Here is the dapper old pug known as Max that I photographed recently. I am really hoping to have the chance for more opportunities to photograph older animals; ones that are in their ‘golden years’. The soul in those brown eyes, the many folds in his skin, the grey whiskers, it’s all fascinating to look at; such character!
To capture memories of humans’ beloved animal friends is such an honor for me. I have heard from a number of people who said they wish they had done a photo session with their dog or cat before they passed on. Please do let me know if you would like to talk about setting up a ‘Golden Years’ or Borrowed Time session with your animal friend, I’d love to hear from you.
