About Me

Katherine A. Moore, K.A.Moore Photography. (That's me!) (That’s me!)

Hi there. You’d probably like to know some more about me, so let me share some of my story with you. It’s easier to get in front of the camera if you know a bit more about who is behind the camera. Then you can figure out if I’m the right person for you to be working with.

About Me

– I was drawn to photography because of seeing my dad take hundreds of photos when we were growing up; he filled album after album. I got my first ‘real’ film camera as a teenager; that Pentax SLR led me to win a high school photography competition that I entered on a whim. The winning picture was of a black and white street scene I took in downtown Seattle, the first time I visited the city.  I was then hooked on working on the whole darkroom process and seeing my images come alive.

– I’m a total animal-lover –every kind of creature, big or small–but have a natural affinity with cats. My connection to animals started with our Dalmatian, who would watch my crib when I was a baby. My dad was a veterinarian so it’s probably in the genes; I’ve trained and worked as a veterinary technician, where I learned a lot about animal behavior. I think that makes companion animal photography such a natural thing for me; I can’t imagine my life without animals.

– I began my degree at the University of West London, and finished my BA at the Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA; studying photography, media studies, psychology, journalism, and film and video production, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies, and Film & Video.

– My degree led me to work in a TV studio, and for many years I worked as film continuity/script supervisor on many productions including feature films and music videos. Along with pet photography, I often photograph high school seniors, events, live music, and portraits. I’m also able to photograph headshots and run a photo booth at events.

– I’m mum to a high school senior, and I have a neurotic white rescue dog called Sonder, and a naughty but handsome kitty Jeffers. I frequently volunteer my photography services, I am a steward for a Little Free Library, and edit, review, and read a lot of books.

– I have a Certificate in Editing, and a Specialization in Developmental Editing from the University of Washington; in addition to book editing and reviewing, I write a book review column for the Professional Editors Network monthly newsletter.

And so importantly… I love photography. I love the process, the end product, the smiles and tears when someone sees their images. I love that photography has the power to change opinions, to record memories and stories, and all the little moments we might easily forget. Photographs can hold so much beauty and honesty, and that’s what I want my images to show people when they see them.

I hope you got to know me a little bit here and you’ll visit some of my other pages and posts. I’d love to meet your family, your pets, and invite me into your world to tell your story with my photography.

I hope we talk soon!
~ Katherine

Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever. It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”

I grew up in the PNW (no longer live there) — but what a beautiful place to call home! Your photography is gorgeous! I am interested in photography and hope to hone my skills behind the camera. And imagine that – we’re both crazy cat ladies! 🙂

I’m so glad you found me!! I’ll be sure to find your site too.
Photography has been a long love of mine, plus having worked in the film and video business, so it’s something I’m always working on and with. I may try and post more information about working with cats this year. I do have an older post up about working with them in the shelter…
Anyway, so glad to ‘meet’ you!
