Pet Photo Sessions with ME! | Seattle Pet Photography

So it has been a rather long time since I published a blog post; I keep my Facebook page updated, post pretty kitty photos on Instagram, and also post on Twitter, but I’ve been a bit naughty with my blog lately. Personal reasons have kept me from doing so. *That is a good opening reminder to everyone to go and follow me in all those places though, isn’t?!

I want to share a few great photo sessions that I haven’t managed to show people yet…

First of all, I can’t believe it’s the end of summer time; my cats hunt down the remaining sun patches on the floor during the daytime hours, and had sadly been spending less time sleeping on my bed at night because it was too warm to be near at night.

And my old pup Apollo was walking around with his mouth open panting, or lying asleep most of the day, exhausted by the heat, even if he hadn’t done a thing (he is 13, so that’s okay, I guess). He does like lying in sun patches too, even though he has black fur (going grey), but like me, has less tolerance for the heat these days than he used to. Luckily this is Seattle, you say. We had MONTHS of the hottest summer days I can remember here; we only JUST had our first 2 days of rain that I can recall in the longest time. Fall this year is welcome relief for Seattlites, especially after all the smokey skies from the wild fires. My pets can come back and lie on the bed!!

But I wasn’t going to write an entire post about my dear Apollo and my cats Hailey and Jeffers (one day you’ll get your star blog post, guys, I promise). Most people land on my page, or know my photography, because of my volunteer rescue ‘work’. I hate to call it work because, while I know that it takes a bunch of time and effort, ie photography, editing, etc, and that I’ve done photos for the same cat rescue for 6 years now, it rewards me personally so much. But that’s a whole different post.

That said, I want to remind people I do private photography sessions: some people are actually surprised to hear this. I guess I’m not the marketing superstar I wish I could be, and I have not been great at tooting my horn and telling people that I do more than the rescue photography. That’s my quiet admission to you all today! I’d love to take more photos of people’s pets, and people with their pets, and pets with their people (I also do documentary, events, and families too). I’ve photographed some wonderful cat and dog (and chicken) families, and I want to share some of my favorite images with you.

Never wait too long before you get photos with your pets and of your pets! One of the reasons I really want to urge people to get some great images of their pets done by a professional photographer, is because I never want to hear from someone again, “I wish I’d had my pet’s photos taken before they died”…which is the saddest thing in the world for me to hear. Information about session rates, can be found HERE, and please talk with me a little bit more if you have a pet on ‘borrowed time’ and you’d like some special photos done. Email me for more info.

I’ll be doing a kitty photo session at someone’s home this week, and it’s also the rescue’s annual Nine Lives Gala this weekend, where I’ll be taking probably about a thousand photos as always. This year’s theme is ‘Caturday Night Fever’ so that’s going to be totally groovy. I’m looking forward to getting everyone’s photo at the ‘photobooth’ and to see who bids on having their cat on the cover of next year’s rescue calendar. I’ll be working on that soon.

I hope to hear from you soon! CONNECT WITH ME!

**This post is dedicated to the beautiful Baby, the smaller tabby cat in the second slideshow. She latched on to me immediately when I was taking photos at her mama’s house, and she passed away recently, Rest in peace, sweet kitty.

*2nd dedication to the beautiful chicken Black Widow!

Cat Calendar ON SALE NOW! | Seattle Cat Photography

UPDATE: THE CALENDARS ARE SOLD OUT AT THE RESCUE.  If you would like to order a calendar, contact me directly by emailing me! katherine.moore.photo@gmail.com

I’m just so excited to share this with you!! After another year of photographing hundredscover-2-huey-louie of cats for Seattle Area Feline Rescue, I’ve designed another calendar for the following year, and the 2017 SAFe Rescue Cat Calendar is now on sale to benefit the cats. I put a quick poll on my Facebook page that led to a gallery to get some quick input to help narrow my shortlist, but boy, it is HARD to narrow down the images. This year, 16 cats and kittens show their face in and on the calendar; I honestly wish I could show you ALL the cats I have images of but even those wouldn’t make it into a cat-a-day calendar. But they’re ALL beautiful!

calendar-square-collageBest part: YOU get to look at some of the beautiful cats that I photographed last year, by having a copy of the calendar in your home, when you purchase one, so YOU MUST. And it’s not a flimsy cheapo calendar. NOPE! It’s an 11 x 17 inch wire-bound calendar, on satin-paper stock (smooth to write on), with boxes that give you ample room to write your info on each day, and I included lots of cool pet holidays on the calendar (so you don’t forget important things like ‘Hug Your Cat Day’). And NEW this year: rescue stories and info about the cats I included!

I tried to balance out some of my favorite and YOUR favorite images with some of the most remarkable rescue stories of the year, as well as present a good selection of the kinds of kitties that come through the rescue doors. It’s so hard to pick though. And with the ones that didn’t make it in the calendar, soon I’m going to make prints and cards available. I sincerely appreciate the love for these sweet faces. It’s also heartwarming to hear from people who adopted these cats and remember these cats. They’re all so special, and I love hearing from anyone and everyone. I put so much work and soul into this, I really hope you love it too.

And the superstar cat at the end of the calendar, who had her photo taken in her newbindi-1_resize home, is Bindi the blind kitty. You will have to get the calendar to see her new photo, looking entirely blissful! She is so happy now! Here she is way back when I first met her, before she had her two eye surgeries, and before she found her forever home.

Once the calendars arrive at the rescue, the options are to have one mailed to you, or if you are local to Seattle, you can pick one up. I am pondering adding in a Holiday print of the cats for people. Maybe for the first 25 orders or those who come to the rescue to pick up their calendar. What do you think, friends?Calendars will be hot off the press on December 23rd in a LIMITED BATCH, so pay for your pre-order now!

**PLEASE USE THIS DIRECT LINK TO PURCHASE A CALENDAR (the online order form) OR GO to the Seattle Area Feline Rescue website TO DO SO.**

Well, on that note, I hope you get your calendar, and I hope the New Year ahead is a happy, healthy,  and warm-cat (and dog) -filled one!

Offering you space to place new steps of change.” ~ Maya Angelou

Wings of Rescue Holiday Airlift 11.18.16 | Seattle Pet Photography

When I hear that there is another airlift coming in thanks to Wings of Rescue, I always jump at the chance to document it. I feel like it’s such a special thing to be even a small part of these missions, especially when I think about the magnitude of what is being done, and how many people are involved, and how many pets are being helped.

Dogs and cats were flown from the Los Angeles area (they fly out of Van Nuys airport), where there are high euthanasia rates and severe overcrowding issues in shelters. In the words of Wings of Rescue, they are ‘pleased to announce that because of [your] generous support, we are flying 787 cats and dogs who otherwise would not have seen Thanksgiving to no kill shelters throughout the United States and Canada this weekend. We would like to thank all of our donors, our fabulous volunteers, our receiving and sending shelter partners for helping make this happen! If you would like to help us continue our life-saving transports – please donate by clicking here www.wingsofrescue.org/donate

Here is a slideshow of just some of the photos from that afternoon; I have the full album up on my Flickr photostream (CLICK ON THAT LINK!!), and I’d love for you for check them ALL out, but these give you a look at this wonderful day for these dogs and cats, as they arrive in Washington.

When you realize that this is only a fraction of the animals that were flown out that day, and that we even met FIVE PLANES here in the Seattle area, it’s mind-boggling to think of the need that is out there. They come here because of the higher adoption rates, the shortened adoption time, and the second chances we can give them. We are one big rescue community, all volunteering to give these precious lives a new start. The pilots volunteer their time and the use of their planes, and the ASPCA assists. It takes many shelters and rescues to take in all the animals on the receiving end. It fills my heart with so much happiness to know that there is so much compassion out there to get this done.

Make sure to keep up with all my rescue photography for Seattle Area Feline Rescue, as well as the exciting work I do for clients and other projects over on MY FACEBOOK PAGE. I’d love to stay in touch and keep talking! I hope this ‘tail’ touched your heart! Leave a note and let me know if it did. Sending peace and love out there!20161118-wings-of-rescue-web-lr-55

Wings Of Rescue, Summer ’16 | Seattle Rescue Pet Photography

I did a bit of a goof and left this post in my drafts, even though these images of mine make my heart sing. I’ve photographed a couple of these amazing Wings of Rescue missions before, but hadn’t for a while, so it was high time I documented another flight coming in.

The rescue I photograph for, Seattle Area Feline Rescue (SAFeR), is now regularly receiving rescue transports from California and Hawaii, thanks to Wings of Rescue AND the ASPCA (via our friends Alaskan Airlines), and I can’t explain how blown away I am by the power of this community rescue work. The math is pretty simple: we have higher adoption rates here in the Greater Seattle Area, than in CA, Hawaii, and in Eastern WA, where we usually get our cats from. Many times, these animals will have been waiting for a while in shelters where they came from, but will get adopted in a fraction of that time on this end.

Love is in the air…and on the ground, waiting for them, every time. There are also smiles all around when that plane touches down; with this flight, I was able to meet the Founder and Pilot in Command, Yehunda Netanel, as he was flying the flagship plane that day. And that little plane holds a lot of crates!!

EVERY time I document any rescue transport coming in, and I photograph these little animal faces peering out, with them not knowing what’s going on, I see this contrast of their anxiety with the smiles of the volunteers, and I wish I could assure them that their second chances had already arrived and it would be okay. The whole experience really warms my soul.

Let me know what you think when you see these images, and about these missions! I’d love to hear from you!

**And remember to check in with me on Facebook; I’m always there!
