About Me

Katherine A. Moore, K.A.Moore Photography. (That's me!)

(That’s me!)

Hi there. You’d like to know some more about me, so let me share some of my story with you. It’s easier to get in front of the camera if you know a bit more about the girl behind the camera. Then you can figure out if I’m the right person for you to be working with – I hope I am!

About Me

~ I was drawn to photography because of seeing my dad take hundreds of photos of me and my siblings when we were growing up; he filled album after album. I got my first ‘real’ film camera as a teenager, so it’s been quite a few years since then. That Pentax SLR led me to win a high school photography competition that I entered on a whim. The picture was actually a black and white street scene I took in downtown Seattle, the first time I came here.  I was then hooked on working on the whole darkroom process and seeing my images come alive.

~ I’ve lived in the Pacific Northwest for a whopping 23 years now (I love Seattle!), but I’m actually from England and miss it there a lot. I was born there, but then was lucky enough to grow up in Hong Kong and saw a lot of Asia when I was little. I also went to boarding school in the UK, at Battle Abbey, which is the building that was built by William the Conqueror when he won the Battle of Hastings in 1066.

~ I’m a total animal-lover – every kind of creature, big or small – but I undoubtedly am a crazy cat lady have a natural affinity with cats. My connection to animals probably started with our Dalmatian Bozey, who would watch my crib when I was a baby. My dad was a veterinarian so it’s in the genes (!); I’ve also trained and worked as a veterinary technician, where I learned a lot about animal behavior. It all makes companion animal photography such a natural thing for me…it just feels right. I just can’t imagine my life without (lots of) animals in it.

~ I went to university in London, and then to the Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA,  to earn a Bachelor of Arts, studying photography, media studies, psychology, journalism, and film and video production. All back in the days of using real film for both stills and movies, I learned photography using 35mm cameras, and how to make short films by splicing together film strips. My degree led me to work in a TV studio, and then for many years as film continuity/script supervisor on many productions including feature films and music videos. I learned so much about things like light and composition, and capturing the right moment (which all have contributed greatly to my photography), but movie set life can be kind of crazy, so returning to  still photography is definitely more my steam these days!

~ I’m mama to a full-of-beans, amazing, smart 9 year old boy, and _3KM1848 (2)partner to a talented musician. I’m also stepmom to 2 other kids, and I totally love my neurotic black terrier Apollo (12), and my spoiled and beautiful kitties, Hailey (16), and Jeffers (6). I spend lots of time on my rescue cat photography; it plays a huge role in my life, and luckily keeps me from adopting even more cats.

~ I live with MS (multiple sclerosis) which is a royal pain in the you-know-what, but I have to live through and with it, and every spring I try to dedicate myself to the annual Walk MS fundraiser.

~ Random: I utterly hate wearing socks, I love chocolate and iced coffee drinks (all year round), and I’m most definitely a night owl. Coincidentally, my spirit animal is supposedly an owl.

I love photography. I love cameras. I think in photographs, and love printing them out, and hope that everyone I take photos for, will order prints! Hold them in your hand, put them on the wall! I love the process, the end product, the smiles and even tears when someone sees their images. I love that photography has the power to change opinion, to record memories and our stories, and all the little things we might easily forget. Photographs can hold so much beauty and honesty, and that’s what I want my images to show people when they see them.

I hope you got to know me a little bit here and you’ll visit some of my other pages and posts. I’d love to meet your family, your pets, and invite me into your world to tell your story with my photography.

I hope we talk soon!
~ Katherine

Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever. It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”

I grew up in the PNW (no longer live there) — but what a beautiful place to call home! Your photography is gorgeous! I am interested in photography and hope to hone my skills behind the camera. And imagine that – we’re both crazy cat ladies! 🙂

I’m so glad you found me!! I’ll be sure to find your site too.
Photography has been a long love of mine, plus having worked in the film and video business, so it’s something I’m always working on and with. I may try and post more information about working with cats this year. I do have an older post up about working with them in the shelter…
Anyway, so glad to ‘meet’ you!
